The ESP-01S board exposes fewer GPIO pins than some other ESP8266 development boards. Verify the exact board pinout, firmware and available flash. ESP8266 modules use 3.3V logic; use a stable 3.3V supply with adequate peak current and do not connect 5V signals directly to GPIO. The exact module regulator and protection depend on the board version.
