Description
PIC18F4550 8-Bit Microcontroller
The Microchip PIC18F4550 is an 8-bit microcontroller with up to 48MHz clock performance. Microchip lists 32KB Flash program memory, 2KB RAM, 256 bytes EEPROM, 35 I/O pins, a 10-bit ADC with 13 channels, SPI, I2C, EUSART, and a full-speed USB 2.0 interface.
Key features
- Device: PIC18F4550
- Clock performance: up to 48MHz (12 MIPS)
- Program memory: 32KB Flash
- RAM: 2KB
- Interfaces: USB 2.0 full speed, SPI, I2C, EUSART
- ADC: 10-bit, up to 13 channels
- I/O: 35 pins
- Package shown in the source pinout: DIP-40
Source correction: the French listing includes CAN among the peripherals, but Microchip does not list a CAN peripheral for the PIC18F4550. A separate CAN controller/interface is required for CAN communication.
The MCU executes instructions from Flash, uses RAM for data, and communicates through its peripherals. USB designs still require the appropriate circuit, connector and firmware.
Typical applications
- USB peripherals
- Embedded control and monitoring
- Industrial automation
- Robotics and user interfaces
Program the device with compatible PIC development tools and MPLAB software. Check the exact package datasheet for power pins, pin functions, supply limits and circuit requirements before wiring or powering the device.
