Description

CD74HC4067 16-Channel Analog/Digital Multiplexer Module

The CD74HC4067 is a 16-channel analog/digital multiplexer and demultiplexer. Like a rotary switch, it internally connects the common pin (COM in the diagram, SIG on the board) to one of 16 channel pins (Cxx). Connections work in either direction. It handles analog and digital signals; signal voltage must not exceed VCC.

Control it using four digital outputs connected to the select pins S0–S3. Send the binary address of the channel you want to select; consult the datasheet for details. The source describes connecting up to 16 sensors using five microcontroller pins: four select pins and the common signal pin.

Because it also handles digital signals, it can route TTL-level serial data to or from multiple devices. For example, one board can connect the TX pins of up to 16 devices to one microcontroller RX pin, selecting which device to listen to. A second board can route the microcontroller TX line to the RX lines of 16 devices for bidirectional communication. Multiple boards can be arranged for similar I²C or SPI routing; check the bus electrical requirements before using this configuration.

The internal switches are bidirectional and support signals between ground and VCC. The source describes low on-resistance, low off-state leakage and break-before-make switching to help prevent crosstalk. The board also exposes the chip enable pin: when high, it disconnects the common pin and turns all switches off.
