Description
HX1838 Infrared Receiver Module with Remote
This kit pairs an HX1838 infrared receiver module with a 17-button KEYES remote for microcontroller projects. Use it to receive remote-control button signals and experiment with infrared control. The kit also includes a three-wire jumper cable and an infrared LED for basic transmitting experiments.
📦 Kit contents
- KEYES 17-button infrared remote
- HX1838 infrared receiver module
- Three-wire Dupont jumper cable
- Infrared LED
Battery not included: the remote requires one CR2025 coin-cell battery, which is not supplied.
🔧 Listed specifications
- Kit/module operating voltage stated by the listing: 5 V
- Remote: 17 buttons
- Remote operating distance stated by the listing: up to 8 m; actual range depends on line of sight, orientation, ambient light and receiver sensitivity
- Effective remote angle stated by the listing: 60°
- Static/dynamic current figures stated by the listing: 3–5 µA / 3–5 mA; the listing does not clearly identify which kit component each figure describes
- Approximate remote dimensions: 85 × 40 × 6.5 mm. The French listing gives the same numerical dimensions with “mm,” which appears to be a unit typo.
⚙️ Setup and use
Power the receiver module according to its board labels and connect the three-wire lead to the matching supply, ground and signal pins. Confirm the pin order before wiring; do not infer it from the connector orientation. Connect the receiver’s digital output to a suitable microcontroller input and decode the received button signals in software. Test at short range first.
The HX1838 is an infrared receiver, while the included LED supports simple transmit experiments when driven by suitable circuitry. The supplied remote is intended for compatible infrared command formats; it is not a universal controller for every television, fan or appliance. Device brands and models can use different protocols or command sets.
Infrared normally needs a reasonably clear optical path. Sunlight, strong lighting, obstacles, pointing angle and the target receiver can reduce the working distance. The 8 m figure is a listing value, not a guaranteed range in every environment.
💡 Example projects
- Reading remote button presses with a microcontroller
- Controlling compatible devices in a prototype
- Learning about infrared receivers and signal decoding
- Short-range infrared control experiments using the included LED
Check the board documentation and logic levels before connecting it to a 3.3 V or 5 V controller.
